A story in the September 19 Miami Herald provided additional, though unconfirmed, information about Dr. Al-Badr M. H. Al-Hazmi, a radiology resident at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center (UTHSC). Al-Hazmi is being held for questioning by the FBI in connection with the September 11 attacks on the U.S.
According to the Miami Herald, the FBI is now turning its attention to preventing further attacks it says may have been planned. Part of the investigation is focusing on four men who bought tickets for Saturday, September 22 on two United Airlines flights, Flight 1429 from San Antonio to Denver and Flight 1185 from Denver to San Diego. One of the men was Al-Hazmi, and the three others are still being sought, according to the article.
The Herald, quoting information from a federal law-enforcement list of people being sought for questioning, said that Al-Hazmi had an "association'' with American Airlines Flight 77, which crashed into the Pentagon in a wave of attacks on the U.S. September 11.
"The federal document shows investigators are examining whether Al-Hazmi may have used, as an alias, the name of Flight 77 hijack suspect Khalid Al Midhar. Two other suspected hijackers on that flight, Nawaf Al-Hazmi and Salem Al-Hazmi, have the same last name as the doctor, the document indicates," according to the newspaper report.
