The GE Healthcare division of industrial conglomerate General Electric reported sales growth of 33% for the first quarter (end-March 31).
For the period, the Chalfont St. Giles, U.K.-based division reported sales of $3.321 billion, compared with sales of $2.495 billion in the first quarter of 2004. The unit reported a profit of $409 million, up 21% compared with $339 million in the same period a year ago.
The quarterly numbers were helped by contribution from GE Healthcare's purchase of contrast developer Amersham Health, which was acquired in April 2004. GE also reported that it booked $140 million in orders for its LightSpeed Volume CT 64-slice CT scanner and won a three-year single-source contract for contrast media from group-purchasing organization Novation.
