GE Healthcare said it has expanded its existing African healthcare initiative at two hospitals in Kumasi and Kintampo, Ghana.
The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi will receive a fluoroscopy unit, ultrasound systems, incubators, monitors, lighting, electrical distribution equipment, water purification systems, and Internet connectivity, according to the Chalfont St. Giles, U.K.-based vendor.
The Kintampo District Hospital will receive ultrasound, anesthesia, and x-ray equipment, as well as incubators, power generation equipment, lighting, and a water distribution and purification system, GE said. The firm also donated lab equipment and provided Internet connectivity to Kintampo's Rural Health Training School and its Health Research Centre.
The combined effort by GE Healthcare, GE Infrastructure, and GE Industrial is part of the parent company's five-year $20 million humanitarian project to provide a combination of healthcare and power generation equipment, water filtration systems, appliances, and lighting to a number of sites throughout Africa, the company said.
