Siemens shows strong Q1

The medical group of German industrial conglomerate Siemens reported growth in sales and profit for its fiscal 2006 first quarter (end-December 31, 2005).

For the period, Siemens Medical Solutions reported sales of 1.984 billion euros ($2.423 billion U.S.), up 20% compared with sales of 1.656 billion euros ($2.022 billion) in the first quarter of fiscal 2005. Sales grew 11% when adjusted for currency translation effects.

The Erlangen-based division reported a group profit of 246 million euros ($300.4 million), a 14% uptick compared with 219 million euros ($262.6 million) posted in the same period of fiscal 2005.
