Dear Business & Industry Insider,
There's always someone who wants to build a better mousetrap, and the field of nuclear cardiology is no exception. A new company called Spectrum Dynamics has developed what it believes is an improvement on existing dedicated cardiac gamma cameras, and plans to target the cardiology office segment with its system.
The Tirat Hacarmel, Israel-based firm has developed a system called D-SPECT that uses a number of novel technologies in gamma camera instrumentation. The first is a new detector design that enables the system to collect data far more quickly than conventional cameras. Another innovation is a concept the company calls "personalized molecular scanning," in which scan parameters are tailored to patient physiology and anatomy.
Spectrum Dynamics believes that the advances translate into faster cardiac SPECT images with image quality comparable to or better than conventional cardiac gamma cameras -- and that the system also could be able to conduct intriguing potential clinical applications.
