Philips Healthcare of Andover, MA, and bioMérieux of Marcy l'Etoile, France, have signed an agreement to jointly develop fully automated handheld diagnostic testing products for hospital use at the point of care.
The collaboration is designed to improve diagnosis and management of disease in critical care settings, such as emergency departments, coronary units, and intensive care units.
The alliance will combine Philips' existing portfolio and strengths in medical technology, patient monitoring, and healthcare IT with bioMérieux's biological assays and cardiovascular and infectious disease markers. bioMérieux also will have access to Philips' Magnotech technology for hospital-based point-of-care testing applications.
The two companies intend to have products on the market by 2013.
