Driven by its Imaging Systems and Clinical Care Systems segments, Philips Healthcare of Andover, MA, achieved greater sales growth in the first quarter of 2010 (end-March 31).
Sales increased 7% on a comparable basis to 1.82 billion euros ($2.45 billion U.S.), compared with 1.74 billion euros ($2.35 billion U.S.) in the first quarter of 2009.
EBITA (earnings before interest, tax, and amortization) rose to 166 million euros ($224 million U.S.), compared with 69 million euros ($91.8 million U.S.) in the same quarter a year ago.
The EBITA gain comes despite an increase in the healthcare group's restructuring and acquisition-related charges to 29 million euros ($39.1 million U.S.) in the first quarter of 2010, compared with 15 million euros ($20.2 million U.S.) in the same quarter of 2009.
