Molecular imaging is generating headlines this week in your Business & Industry Digital Community.
Several new agreements have been announced that have the potential to move forward the cutting edge of PET and nuclear medicine technology. For example, the provincial government of Saskatchewan in Canada announced that it is partnering with Hitachi for the development of nuclear medicine technology, a deal that includes the creation of a combination PET/proton beam therapy center.
Farther south, Purdue University has inked a pact with the Korean Institute for Science and Technology (KIST) for the development of molecular imaging tools that would enable the use of therapy at the time of diagnosis. And radioisotope manufacturer International Isotopes made a move this week as part of its plans to build a facility to convert uranium into isotopes that could be used for medical applications.
Finally, a new industry research study indicates that the global market for PET and SPECT radiopharmaceuticals could be worth close to $5 billion by 2015.
