Coronary imaging developer InfraReDx said that its LipiScan imaging system can rapidly and accurately detect extensive lipid core plaques that are linked to an increased risk of heart attack during or following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), according to recent research.
In a study published online October 4 in Circulation: Cardiovascular Interventions, researchers from Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI, found that LipiScan with near-infrared spectroscopy could identify and quantify these dangerous plaques that weren't discovered on coronary angiography. As a result, the system offers the potential to improve patient outcomes and prevent complications in cardiac procedures, according to the researchers.
