Varian to acquire InfiMed for $15M

Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems on March 5 signed an agreement to acquire x-ray technology developer InfiMed for approximately $15 million and additional money based on sales of InfiMed products over the next 24 months.

InfiMed generates approximately $15 million in annual revenues by developing and supplying x-ray equipment manufacturers with specialized software and hardware for medical imaging applications, including radiography, fluoroscopy, digital radiography, cardiology, and angiography. The company has approximately 60 employees.

The acquisition could close as soon as April. InfiMed would operate within Varian's X-Ray Products business segment.

In a prepared statement, Robert Kluge, president of Varian's X-Ray Products business, said that the addition of InfiMed would enable Varian to better serve its x-ray customers with x-ray tubes, flat-panel image detectors, and workstations.
