Premier touts hospital savings

Group purchasing organization Premier announced that hospitals participating in its Ascend purchasing program have saved more than $120 million over the past three years.

Ascend's 321 members, representing more than 54,000 hospital beds and more than $7 billion in supply chain purchasing volume, obtained the savings by aggregating, monitoring, and analyzing supply chain data. This has allowed them to act on performance improvement opportunities that support purchasing practices, efficient clinical utilization, and specialty negotiated contracts, according to the company.

Premier reported that 25% of Ascend members have identified more than $1 million each in savings opportunities.
