GE Healthcare saw healthy growth in both revenues and operating profit in its third quarter (end-September 30).
For the period, the healthcare division reported revenues of $4.485 billion, up 4% from revenues of $4.304 billion in the corresponding quarter of 2013. The division's operating profit was $727 million, compared with an operating profit of $665 million in the same period last year.
GE said the healthcare numbers represented "strong execution" in a "tough environment."
For the nine-month year-to-date period, GE Healthcare generated $13.166 billion in revenues, up 1% from sales of $13.083 billion in the first nine months of 2013. The division's year-to-date operating profit was $2.027 billion, compared with $1.986 billion in the same period of 2013.
Equipment orders for the unit stood at $2.7 billion for the period, unchanged compared to the third quarter of 2013, while orders for services were $2 billion, up 8% from the same period last year. Orders from the U.S. market were up 3%, while Europe was up 4% and emerging markets remained flat.
The healthcare division had an operating profit margin of 16.2% for the quarter, up 70 basis points.
