Anthem has updated its payment policies to allow patients under the age of 19 to receive advanced diagnostic imaging in the hospital setting.
The policy change went into effect on August 19. Anthem's previous policy limited access to hospital-based advanced imaging to children ages 10 and younger.
In April, the American College of Radiology and the Society of Pediatric Radiology sent a letter to Anthem urging the insurer to expand its site of care medically necessary criteria. The societies said they engaged in a productive dialog with Anthem on August 11 and that the insurer made the decision to update the policy shortly thereafter.
