United Imaging has begun construction of a new manufacturing and R&D headquarters in Shanghai, with plans for a 420,000-sq-m campus that will accommodate up to 10,000 employees.
United said it has invested $490 million for the project. The facilities were designed by Gensler, a top global architectural design company. Gensler designed the Shanghai Tower, the world's third tallest building.
The facilities will include a digital intelligent "super factory" to promote automatic and intelligent manufacturing, according to United. The factory will be powered by cutting-edge technologies such as IoT (Internet of Things), big data, and artificial intelligence to achieve flexible scheduling, configuration, intelligent decision-making, automatic production, and intelligent operations in manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics, as well as increase its supply capacity, the company said.
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
