GE HealthCare has appointed Dr. Taha Kass-Hout as its first chief technology officer.
Kass-Hout is a cardiologist and a digital and machine learning expert, GE HealthCare said. He will lead the company's science and technology organization, reporting to President and CEO Peter Arduini, and will work with the company's four business segments -- Imaging, Ultrasound, Patient Care Solutions, and Pharmaceutical Diagnostics -- as well as with its regional, engineering, and machine learning teams, according to the newly standalone firm.
Before joining GE, Kass-Hout served as vice president of machine learning and chief medical officer at Amazon and Amazon Web Services. He established and led health artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives such as Amazon HealthLake, Amazon Comprehend Medical, and Amazon Omics.
Kass-Hout has also served two terms in the Obama administration as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) first chief health informatics officer and director of information science and informatics at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
