Eastman Kodak's Health Imaging division has received Food and Drug Administration clearance for its LifeView Care Station, a two-way health monitoring system that permits healthcare checkups of patients from home over standard telephone lines.
LifeView features full audio and video communication, and enables transmission of vital signs and general healthcare data, according to the Rochester, NY-based firm. The unit includes a monitor and camera, a blood pressure cuff, a stethoscope and a thermometer.
Caregivers can use the system to call a patient and collect clinical data and images that are then transmitted to the medical professional in real-time. Data can also be dated and stored to document the virtual visit, according to Kodak. The product also functions as a regular telephone. The first Care Station units are expected to be available in the third quarter.
