Several major healthcare vendors have joined forces to create an Internet-based global healthcare exchange. Johnson & Johnson, GE Medical Systems, Baxter International, Abbott Laboratories, and Medtronic are equity partners in the effort, which will facilitate the exchange of information related to buying, selling, and distributing medical equipment, devices, and healthcare products and services worldwide, according to the firms. Clinical content will also be included, and equal access will be provided to all manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, providers, group purchasing organizations, and other trading partners, according to the vendors. The exchange will begin operating in the third quarter.
