Video-capsule developer Given Imaging said that health insurer Aetna has expanded its capsule endoscopy coverage policy, effective November 9.
Aetna will now cover the use of capsule endoscopy of the esophagus in cirrhotic patients for the screening and surveillance of esophageal varices, according to the Yoqneam, Israel-based firm. Aetna is the first private insurance payor to cover the procedure for esophageal varices, Given said.
