For another year running, radiologic technologists (RTs) and radiologists enjoyed higher salaries in the past year, according to AuntMinnie.com's 2024 SalaryScan survey.
Radiologists participating in our annual compensation and benefits survey reported an average base salary of $473,000 in 2023, up from $439,944 the year before. Among those who indicated their modality specializations, musculoskeletal specialists had the highest average base salary of $501,000, while mammographers were at the bottom of the list, with an average base salary of $415,000.

On geographic analysis, the West North Central region was the highest paying for radiologists, with an average base salary of $584,000. The South Atlantic region was next, with an average base salary of $507,000, followed by the East South Central region with an average base salary of $480,000. The New England region was the lowest in this year's rankings, with an average base salary of $369,000.

Demand for RTs drove salary increases. In 2023, RTs had an average base salary of $92,000, up from 2022's $85,238. Those who specialized -- particularly in CT, MRI, neuroimaging, and nuclear medicine/PET -- earned more.
Neuroimaging RTs headed the list with an average base salary of $106,000, followed closely by nuclear medicine/PET technologists at $103,000 and CT technologists at $99,000. Body imaging and radiation therapy technologists came in last, with annual base salaries of $73,000.

Our report also found that radiology technologist and radiologist average base salaries varied by geography. The Mountain region -- eighth in radiologist salaries -- was at the top of this year's technologist salaries, at $133,000. But the South Atlantic region -- ranked second for radiologists -- took the bottom spot for technologists, with an average base salary of $77,000.
