ARRT to adopt MQSA mammography standards

The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) will align its mammography examination requirements with those of the U.S. Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) beginning in 2001.

Certificates issued after that date will indicate that the federal clinical experience requirements instituted in January 2000 have been met. The FDA’s MQSA inspectors will now be able to ensure that technologists' qualifications specified in the act have been met by viewing the new certificates issued by the St. Paul, MN-based ARRT.

According to ARRT executive director Jerry Reid, minor changes were made to the registry's requirements to reflect MQSA’s training and education terminology, and to specify that 25 of the 100 required exams had to be done under supervision.
