Radiation therapy and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) developer RITA Medical Systems of Mountain View, CA, said that several Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) systems in the U.S. have established positive written reimbursement policies for the treatment of liver cancer with RFA.
The company said that since the publication of a BCBS Technology Evaluation Committee review in November 2003, positive written reimbursement policies have been published in Florida, Massachusetts, Michigan, and New York for RFA. The newly published policies bring the total number of states with established BCBS positive written reimbursement policies to 24, RITA Medical said.
