Radiologist salaries ride Rocky Mountain updraft

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

Radiologists aren't exactly roughing it in the rugged Mountain region of the U.S. Radiologists in the eight-state area reported the highest salaries of any U.S. region in the most recent installment of AuntMinnie's SalaryScan survey.

Radiologists in the Mountain region reported an average base salary of $376,536 in the 2006 survey, compared with $347,111 in the 2005 edition of SalaryScan. SalaryScan data for various radiology professions and regions can be reviewed in AuntMinnie.com's Job Boards.

But those regional salary peaks obscured what could be trouble over the horizon for radiologists in other areas. Five of the nine U.S. regions reported declines in average base salaries for radiologists.

The picture was brighter for radiologic technologists, for whom salary growth was reported in all nine regions. The U.S. Pacific region again was the most lucrative for RTs, with the U.S. New England zone coming in second, matching results from past SalaryScan surveys.
