The California Legislature has introduced Assembly Bill 352, which would allow a radiologist assistant (RA) to perform medical imaging services under the direct supervision of a radiologist, according to the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT).
The Radiologist Assistant Practice Act was introduced by Assemblymember Mike Eng (D-Monterey Park). It would require the licensure and regulation of radiologist assistants by the Radiologist Assistant Committee of the Medical Board of California and would also allow for individuals certified by the Certification Board for Radiology Practitioner Assistants to be licensed as radiologist assistants.
Radiologist assistants are advanced-level radiologic technologists who have completed a medical imaging academic program and a radiologist-directed clinical preceptorship, ASRT said.
