The Joint Commission has created an infographic to better inform the public about medical imaging exams.
Written in easy-to-understand language, the infographic includes simple definitions for x-ray, ultrasound, MRI, CT, and nuclear medicine exams. It explains the types of clinical conditions that each modality is used for and what happens during the procedure.
It also includes information and guidance for patients, as well as a list of questions patients should ask their healthcare providers when making a decision about whether to undergo an imaging exam.
The Joint Commission developed the infographic in collaboration with the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging, the American College of Radiology, RSNA, and the Society for Pediatric Radiology.
