NCCN publishes cancer imaging guidelines

The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) has published appropriate use criteria (AUC) guidelines to support clinical decision-making for the use of medical imaging in cancer patients.

The guidelines, called NCCN Imaging AUC, are accessible through the organization's Imaging Appropriate Use Criteria Compendium. They include recommendations for cancer screening, diagnosis, staging, treatment response assessment, follow-up, and surveillance, and address the following:

  • Acute lymphoblastic leukemia
  • Acute myeloid leukemia
  • Bladder cancer
  • Breast cancer
  • Genetic/familial high-risk assessment for breast and ovarian cancers
  • Genetic/familial high-risk assessment for colorectal cancer
  • Hodgkin's lymphoma
  • Lung cancer screening
  • Neuroendocrine tumors
  • Pancreatic adenocarcinoma
  • Prostate cancer
  • Prostate cancer early detection

The NCCN said it plans to add more cancer types to the guidelines in the coming months.
