Jeffrey S. Klein, MD, a consultant to the VA White River Junction Healthcare System in Vermont, has been named president of the board of directors of RSNA, the group announced at its 2025 annual meeting in Chicago.

Klein is a renowned expert in the diagnosis and staging of lung cancer, advancing to become professor of radiology and chief of thoracic imaging during a nearly 30-year tenure at the University of Vermont (UMV) in Burlington starting in 1995. From 2006 to 2024, he was its A. Bradley Soule and John P. Tampas Green and Gold Professor of Radiology from 2006 to 2024.
During his lengthy career as a thoracic imaging specialist, Klein served as the president of the Society of Thoracic Imaging from 2005 to 2006, and was the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Thoracic Imaging from 2000 to 2005. The U.S. Department of Justice appointed him for his thoracic expertise to serve on an expert panel convened to develop a protocol for high-resolution CT examinations of Navajo uranium miners under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act of 1990.
As RSNA president, Klein will champion RSNA in global advances in radiology, education, science, and technology, with the focus on delivering world class learning resources that evolve with the needs of the medical imaging community.

After earning a bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College, Klein obtained his medical degree at the State University of New York Health Downstate Medical Center in 1983. After completing his residency at the Staten Island Hospital and SUNY Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn he pursued a fellowship in thoracic radiology at the University of San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center.
Klein has served on numerous RSNA committees and joined its board of directors in 2018. He is a recipient of the RSNA Honored Educator Award and the STR Lifetime Achievement Award. In addition to being a longtime manuscript reviewer of RSNA journals, Klein was editor of Radiographics from 2012 to 2020 He has been a prolific author, and has spoken at more than 140 professional meetings, seminars, and conferences.
