The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) is celebrating National Radiologic Technology Week by touting the importance of technologists during the COVID-19 pandemic.
National Radiologic Technology Week takes place November 8-14 in conjunction with the founding of the ASRT in 1920. The week recognizes the work of more than 340,000 radiologic technologists in hospitals and clinics throughout the U.S.
In 2020, ASRT is using the week to promote the efforts of radiologic technologists in response to the ongoing pandemic, including their key role in performing chest x-rays and CT scans that visualize COVID-19 complications. The organization also celebrated radiation therapists as critical essential workers who ensure patients with cancer can still undergo treatment.
In addition, ASRT promoted the work of radiologic technologists in MRI, mammography, nuclear medicine, interventional, and ultrasound procedures. It also mentioned the crucial role that military radiologic technologists, radiologist assistants, department managers, and educational program directors play in patient care.
