The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) has created a new dual primary certificate in interventional radiology and diagnostic radiology.
In September, the ABMS board of directors and the ABMS reserved powers board approved the certificate, which will be offered by the American Board of Radiology.
Physicians who become board-certified in interventional radiology and diagnostic radiology will demonstrate the following:
- Competency in diagnostic imaging to ensure the appropriate, safe, and efficacious guidance of current interventional procedures
- Competency in the technical aspects of interventional procedures
- The clinical judgment and skills to participate as team members in the periprocedural care of patients undergoing interventional radiological procedures
