Garry Gold, MD, a professor of radiology and biomedical imaging, first served as interim chair after the passing of Sanjiv “Sam” Gambhir, MD, in 2020 and became chair in 2022. He will remain with the department as a professor and continue his research activities, the university said. In the next several years, Gold will lead a new Center for Imaging in Human Performance, which will support the missions of the department, Canary Center, and Wu-Tsai Human Performance Alliance, Stanford added.

David Larson, MD, professor of radiology, has been executive vice chair since July 2023 and will refocus on research as he continues to direct the AI Development and Evaluation Lab and lead the department’s efforts to facilitate clinical AI implementation, Stanford said. He will also continue in his role as the Director of the Improvement Capability Development Program at Stanford Medicine.

Quynh-Thu Le, MD, current chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology, was named interim chair of radiology while a national search is in progress, according to the university.
