A California radiologist and his wife were fatally shot by their adult son at home on Sunday.
According to ABC News, the alleged killer set his car on fire and fatally shot himself after fleeing the scene.
Eric Cordes, MD, and Vicki Cordes were shot multiple times in the garage of their home in Simi Valley on Sunday, shortly after 12 p.m. local time. The couple died of their injuries at a local hospital, the Simi Valley Police Department told ABC News.
Keith Cordes, a resident of Kentucky, allegedly shot his father and stepmother in their garage. He then fled the scene in a black sedan with out-of-state plates, according to witnesses.
The police said he drove to the city of Chino, where he set the car on fire and shot himself. Detectives found the vehicle with the suspect’s remains by tracking the car through automated license plate recognition cameras.
The San Bernardino County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that the remains in the burned car were those of Keith Cordes on Tuesday, according to police.
Cordes had worked with Focus Medical Imaging for several years before his death, the radiology clinic told ABC News on Tuesday. He also worked at Adventist Health Simi Valley, which called the killing of the couple a "shocking loss" in a statement to ABC News.
The circumstances and motive for the double murder are still under investigation.
