ASRT warns of fake phone survey

The American Society of Radiologic Technologists has issued a warning to radiology departments throughout the U.S. to be on guard against callers requesting RT staff names, addresses, telephone numbers, and credentials.

The calls, which ASRT has been tracking since last November, are from individuals who represent themselves as being associated with the Albuquerque-based society. They request that personnel information about a department’s RTs be sent to a toll-free fax number.

But ASRT is not behind the survey, according to Ceela McElveny, ASRT’s director of public relations. "We are not involved in this," McElveny said. "We want to let our members know that they should not cooperate with this kind of survey."

So far, the society has been unable to determine who is behind the calls, despite attempts to track the toll-free fax number.

ASRT does occasionally conduct telephone surveys, but does not ask radiology department managers to disclose confidential personnel information about employees, according to Dick Harris, ASRT’s director of research. To verify whether an ASRT survey is legitimate, contact Harris at 800-444-2778, extension 1265.
