The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) has bestowed two awards: its 2022 ASRT Individual Award for Advocacy and its Affiliate Award.
Shirley Porter is the winner of the Individual Award for Advocacy. Porter is president of North Dakota's Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Board. In 2021, she worked on that state's Senate Bill 2122, which would have given physical therapists authority to order, perform and interpret radiography and MRI exams, eventually securing a rewrite of the legislation stating that physical therapists can only order musculoskeletal x-rays and that radiography exams must be performed by authorized personnel, the ASRT said.
The Louisiana Society of Radiologic Technologists received the ASRT's Affiliate Award for its work in 2021 tracking legislative bills and determining how proposed legislation in the state might affect medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals, according to the ASRT.
