The coronavirus outbreak has prompted the American Board of Radiology (ABR) to postpone the Core Exam, the examination that radiology residents must pass to become board-certified radiologists. The exam had been scheduled for May 28 and 29 and June 1 and 2 in Chicago and Tucson, AZ.
The decision was announced March 17 and applies to both the Diagnostic Radiology (DR) and Diagnostic Radiology/Interventional Radiology (DR/IR) versions of the Core Exam. The ABR said it would be working with the Association of Program Directors in Radiology (APDR) and other stakeholders to choose new dates, but it noted that the rescheduled exams would not take place before September 1.
The ABR previously had canceled or postponed other exams it administers, such as the DR Certifying Exam and the Radioisotope Safety Exam (RISE) tests, the Medical Physics (MP) Oral Exam, and the Radiation Oncology (RO) oral exam. New dates will be announced soon for the MP and RO exams, the ABR said in its March 17 announcement.
