RSNA 2019 may be right around the corner, but the society has already announced the biggest changes to its meeting format in decades. As of RSNA 2021, the conference will end on Thursday and the technical exhibition will be cut from five days to four days.
These plans are part of several changes that will be made over the next two years aimed at enhancing all aspects of both the onsite and virtual RSNA meeting, including technical exhibits, educational and scientific programming, and meeting-related technology, according to the RSNA. Some of these modifications will be implemented at RSNA 2020, while more complex initiatives will be incorporated at RSNA 2021.
In the meantime, RSNA 2019 is all set for December 1 to 6. With the theme of "See possibilities together," this year's edition will feature a plethora of content, including more than 2,500 scientific presentations and posters, over 1,900 education exhibits, and 440 educational courses. In addition, more than 700 exhibitors will showcase their wares in nearly 450,000 sq ft of technical exhibit hall space, the society said.
The RSNA is also directing attention to its plenary sessions, including Sunday's President's Address by RSNA President Dr. Valerie Jackson on the importance of patient-centered care. On Monday, Andrew Saykin, PsyD, will discuss the war on Alzheimer's disease, and Dr. Robert Pascuzzi will speak on the topic of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
In addition, a number of special interest, controversies, and hot topics sessions will be presented at various times during the week on issues such as the diagnosis of vaping-associated lung injury, the role of neuroimaging in the diagnosis and treatment of depression, and radiology's role in responding to disaster and mass casualty incidents.
India and Egypt will be the featured countries for this year's Country Presents series. The popular Fast 5 Session also returns; five speakers will have five minutes each on Tuesday afternoon to share their most creative ideas, according to the RSNA.
The RSNA is also emphasizing the technical exhibition at RSNA 2019, including the AI Showcase and Theater, as well as the 3D Printing and Advanced Visualization Showcase and Theater. The AI Showcase and Theater have been given a new, expanded location at this year's meeting.
In other new additions, the RSNA has debuted an Innovation Theater for attendees to hear about new technology and product launches. In addition, a new Radiation Safety Zone features products designed to protect radiologists and patients, according to the society.
The RSNA also pointed to the Discovery Theater in Lakeside Center, which aims to provide a restful environment for informative presentations and live entertainment. Also, a new Wellness Lounge will offer yoga and a quiet space to reflect and refresh, the organization said.
The society has also expanded its Virtual Meeting, which will include access to more than 400 courses.
