ECR 2011: Contrast allergies, gonad shielding, and evidence-based radiology

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

VIENNA - This week's European Congress of Radiology (ECR) wrapped up on Monday, with a variety of presentations covering the gamut of European radiology.

Among the presentations we're highlighting in our RADCast @ ECR special section is a study by French researchers on allergic reactions to iodine- and gadolinium-based contrast media. The four-year study was conducted at 31 institutions across Europe and has intriguing implications for managing contrast reactions. Learn more by clicking here.

We're also featuring a study by Dutch researchers who are recommending against the use of gonad shields when performing abdominopelvic radiography studies of children. Find out why by clicking here.

And, learn how a lack of evidence-based radiology research studies could someday negatively affect the specialty, according to Italian presenters. This story can be found by clicking here.

Get these stories and more -- including photos and video from the Austria Center Vienna -- by going to radcast.auntminnieeurope.com, which you'll find on our newly launched AuntMinnieEurope.com portal.

Auf Wiedersehen from Vienna!
