Dear AuntMinnie.com Member,
Add another name to the toll wrought by severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). The epidemic’s rapidly growing list of victims now includes the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine’s annual meeting, which was postponed this week due to concerns about the disease.
The show was to be held in Toronto May 10-16. But the Canadian city has been hit by a major outbreak of SARS that prompted the World Health Organization to include Toronto on the short list of cities travelers should avoid.
In response, ISMRM organizers on Thursday said that the society’s board was compelled to postpone the gathering. The society is examining alternative dates, and will announce its progress via its Web site and through e-mail. AuntMinnie has provided ongoing coverage of the SARS epidemic from the imaging perspective, including an article on the impact of the Toronto outbreak on radiology services in the city (you can view that story here). We’ve also published links to SARS images and diagnosis protocols published by the Hong Kong hospital that is on the front lines of the epidemic (click here).
