Toshiba America Medical Systems has added an eight-slice unit to its Aquilion multislice CT product line. Called Aquilion 8, the scanner employs the same detector technology as the Tustin, CA-based vendor's Aquilion 16 system and provides 0.5-mm slice widths.
Aquilion 8's helical cone-beam reconstruction technique allows for reconstruction of up to six images per second. The system also comes equipped with a new couch and a scan range of 1.8 meters, as well as Toshiba's MegaCool x-ray tube with a peak cooling rate of 1.4 MHU.
The system can also be upgraded in the field to provide 400-millisecond scanning and 16-slice technology, Toshiba said. Flat-panel displays will be standard on the Aquilion 8 console. The company will begin shipping the system in the fourth quarter.
