Computer-aided detection (CAD) firm R2 Technology has installed the first commercial lung CT CAD system at IASO General Hospital in Athens, Greece. This technology, the ImageChecker CT CAD system, is used for the detection of lung nodules in CT chest images.
The product, introduced commercially in Europe in March 2003, utilizes CAD algorithms to automatically detect potential areas of interest, as well as measure and characterize information about the detected lung nodules, according to the Sunnyvale, CA-based firm.
The company received 510(k) clearance for the workflow enhancing tools of the ImageChecker CT LN-500 system from the Food and Drug Administration in November 2002. ImageChecker CT LN-1000, which includes the CAD software, is pending FDA approval, said the developer.
