E-Z-EM introduces virtual colonoscopy marker

Virtual colonoscopy and contrast developer E-Z-EM of Lake Success, NY, has launched Tagitol V -- a low-volume barium sulfate suspension that can effectively help tag retained stool for enhanced detection of pathology in virtual colonoscopy.

The product, taken with meals prior to the exam, tags stool as it forms in the digestive tract, making it appear bright white and readily distinguishable from pathology on CT images. This helps reduce incidences of false positives and false negatives, and also improves productivity by reducing image interpretation time, E-Z-EM said.
