Siemens gets FDA nod for CT systems

Siemens Medical Solutions has received Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for its Somatom Sensation 64 and Sensation Open scanners. Sensation 64 is a 64-slice scanner that provides a gantry rotation time of 0.37 seconds, sub-millimeter imaging per rotation, and isotropic spatial resolution of 0.4 mm, according to the Malvern, PA-based vendor.

Sensation Open is a 16-slice CT system offering an 82-cm field of view and an 82-cm gantry bore. The open design of the scanner allows support for CT-based radiation treatment planning, trauma applications, interventional procedures, and imaging of bariatric patients, Siemens said.
