Multimodality vendor GE Healthcare has introduced eXplore Locus Ultra, a new preclinical CT scanner. The Waukesha, WI, company launched the product at last week's Society for Molecular Imaging (SMI) meeting.
eXplore Locus Ultra uses a flat-panel detector and is designed to provide quantitative physiological measurements for applications in stroke research, tumor studies, organ function, and tissue viability. The system's perfusion capability makes it possible to use CT in preclinical applications in ways that weren't previously possible, such as in oncology and acute stroke research.
The scanner's one-second image acquisition time enables imaging of short-lived contrast agents in vasculature and soft-tissue anatomy, GE said. In addition, the scanner's high spatial resolution provides anatomical detail in small animals.
