Medical education product and service firm EduMed has launched a fully accredited physician preceptorship program in PET, according to the Chicago-based company.
The preceptorship program is conducted at Northern California PET Imaging Center of Sacramento, and is designed for interpreting physicians. It consists of three days of training in clinical applications of PET/CT, case studies, cyclotron facility familiarization, and patient observation, EduMed said.
The preceptorship features Dr. Elma Abella, an expert in PET/CT imaging. Simon Cherry, Ph.D., expert on PET/CT physics, and Ruth Tesar, Northern California PET executive director and expert in PET/CT billing and administration, participate as lecturers in the program.
Topics covered in the program include PET/CT physics; normal FDG uptake; the role of PET/CT in lung carcinoma, melanoma, lymphoma, breast carcinoma, and esophageal and colorectal carcinoma; head and neck, thyroid, and brain tumors; evaluation of myocardial viability; and the role of PET/CT in evaluation and treatment. Teaching files are an integral mix of the program, EduMed said.
