Dear CT Insider,

High-resolution chest CT is routinely used to evaluate subtle findings that may indicate interstitial pneumonia. But it imparts high doses of radiation, and researchers have sought ways to reduce those levels.

Enter photon-counting CT, which appears to produce high-quality images at doses lower than conventional chest CT, according to research presented at the recent RSNA meeting that we're highlighting in this edition's Insider Exclusive.

After you've read our featured story, check out our coverage of research conducted in Canada that highlights how coronary CT angiography could help clinicians decide whether patients presenting with heart disease need invasive coronary angiography, as well as plan treatment strategies. Also take a look at our story on how an Egyptian radiologist-archeologist team used CT to digitally "unwrap" the mummy of Pharoah Amenhotep I.

On the healthcare equity side of things, discover why researchers from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston say that although Black patients have a higher risk of coronary artery disease than their white counterparts, they don't necessarily have a higher incidence of major adverse cardiac events -- and what that suggests for clinical practice. Plus, find out what a team from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia has discovered about how demographic and socioeconomic factors of patients influence whether incidental lung nodules found on chest CT are tracked appropriately.

Finally, we have coverage of research that suggests that information gathered from interval diagnostic low-dose CT scans for lung cancer could help clinicians better set the timing of ensuing screening rounds. We also have a story on how volumetric assessment of bone mineral density on dual-energy CT exams produces accurate predictions for future risk of osteoporosis-associated fractures.

We wish you a healthy and happy 2022 and invite you to keep current on CT's developments by visiting our CT Community regularly throughout the year.
