Varian Medical Systems has received Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for its PaxScan 4030 digital radiography system. PaxScan 4030, which combines a computer workstation with imaging software and an amorphous-silicon flat-panel image detector, is configured for use in general medical diagnostic procedures as well as military field hospitals, according to the Palo Alto, CA-based vendor.
Varian will emphasize the size of the solid-state unit, which the firm said is less than half the size and approximately half the weight of conventional film-based or computed radiography systems. It can be unpacked and set up by one person in 10 minutes, Varian said.
