The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists has temporarily suspended its requirement that RTs recertify their registration in bone densitometry after five years.
Previously, the St. Paul, MN-based society required RTs who were certified in bone densitometry to pass an exam and recertify every five years. In temporarily suspending this requirement, the ARRT called the move a "re-examination of the re-examination requirement."
The ARRT added that the time-limited concept is not being abandoned, but that the society will be exploring other options to assure continuing competency among RTs.
