Software developer Exxim Computing of Pleasanton, CA, has merged with Real-Time Radiography, an Israel-based developer of digital radiography systems.
The combined company will be known as Real-Time Radiology (RTR) and will be based in Pleasanton, with R&D activities in Israel. Horst Bruning, formerly the majority shareholder of Exxim, becomes president of RTR's complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) division as a result of the deal.
RTR is developing flat-panel digital detectors that the company hopes will offer higher resolution at a price that is 30% to 50% lower than competing alternatives. The merger gives combines Exxim's CMOS-based digital readout circuitry with RTR's mercury iodide coatings. The firm believes that combining these technologies will offer price/performance benefits for digital radiography, in particular for dynamic applications like fluoroscopy.
RTR has also launched a new round of financing, including a combination of private and institutional investors.
