Vascular ultrasound developer OmniSonics Medical Technologies of Wilmington, MA, reported this week on the use of its Resolution stent system in swine coronary vessels. Initial results show that the application of acoustic energy is safe, and will not create adverse side effects when used in stented coronary arteries, the company said.
The Resolution stent system is based on the firm’s OmniWave technology platform, and is designed to resolve occlusions that occur as a result of coronary artery disease, deep vein thrombosis, and peripheral artery disease. The device, consisting of a titanium wire that is placed into a clogged artery or vein, delivers low-power acoustic energy in all directions to resolve blood clots into minute particles approximately the size of red blood cells, the company said.
