Medical device developer Edwards Lifesciences has introduced two pre-mounted, balloon-expandable stents in Europe and the U.S. The LifeStent SDS Biliary System has been approved for use in the U.S. to treat biliary disease and is designed to keep a patient’s bile duct open, according to the Irvine, CA-based firm.
The product has been approved for use in Europe to treat peripheral vascular disease. Edwards’ complete line of LifeStent products, including self-expandable as well as balloon-expandable non-coronary stents, will be made available in multiple sizes and configurations over the next two quarters as it obtains additional regulatory clearances, according to the company.
