CTI Molecular Imaging and InHealth Group of London have formed a PET and molecular imaging partnership in the United Kingdom. The alliance will include the initial development of up to seven new PET and PET-CT centers throughout the U.K., as well as the management of existing facilities, according to the companies.
The PET and PET-CT centers will also manufacture all PET tracers currently in use for both research and development purposes as well as clinical use, including FDG, the firms said. CTI and InHealth said the sites will collaborate with the U.K.'s major National Health Service (NHS) trusts and academic institutions, and will allow FDG to be accessible to most acute hospitals.
In addition to these locations, a number of PET and PET-CT scanning centers will utilize PET tracers produced from the network of production facilities. The first of these centers, as well as a U.K.-wide mobile scanning service, have been launched and have performed more than 2000 PET scans, according to the companies.
InHealth will also utilize the Knoxville, TN-based firm's cyclotron and chemistry technology in the development of new PET tracer production, pharmacy, and distribution facilities. The alliance will also work with CTI's wholly-owned PETNET subsidiary, which already supplies FDG to the UK health sector.
InHealth and CTI (via its CTI PET Systems subsidiary) indicated they would develop a research center in the UK in collaboration with academic and research sites for both new PET tracer evaluation and PET and PET-CT scanner development.
