Varian gets FDA nod for Trilogy

Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems has received Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for its Trilogy linear accelerator. Trilogy can deliver stereotactic radiosurgery, fractionated stereotactic radiation therapy, and intensity-modulated radiosurgery, according to the Palo Alto, CA-based vendor.

It can also perform 3-D conformal radiotherapy, SmartBeam IMRT, and Dynamic Targeting image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), Varian said. The company is taking orders now for Trilogy, which is expected to begin shipping in the second half of fiscal 2004.
